Our History

James F. Poole, CFP—father, husband, and friend to the community—was born and raised in Laurens, South Carolina.  Always the student and performer, Jim put his attention and efforts on singing and studying from an early age.  A choral virtuoso, Jim's baritone voice was featured in both private and public domains, including in Carnegie Hall and at the inauguration of Governor Roy Romer.  His zeal for learning led him to receive a degree in Mathematics from Benedict College, Columbia, to graduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania, and to a teaching carreer in Central High School in Pueblo, Colorado.

His mathematical mind and his genuine care for others in the community brought him next into a lifelong carreer in wealth management, which he began in 1964.  One of his often-stated core values was, "The worst thing that could happen to you could be the best thing that happens to you, if you don't let it get the best of you"—a phrase readily suited to his approach to financial planning.  For his clients he served as securities broker, insucance agent, and annuity and mutural fund salesman, and he worked with individuals, businesses, and organizations to assist them in managing their affairs for the present and the future.

Jim was a Registered Representative and Financial Planner for over 25 years.  After his passing in 2008, Jim's legacy has since been taken up by Sean Westbrook, who as President of James F. Poole & Associates maintains the quality and care of service to all clients to this day.  It is thanks to Jim's innovation, intellect, and mentorship that James F. Poole & Associates continues to provide for the public in planning for the future.
